St Luke’s Church, Farnworth, Widnes.

Our school is extremely lucky to be linked with St Luke’s Church in Farnworth. This mutually supportive and loving relationship strengthens our mission, as we work together to support all members of our school community in their journey with God.

We have extremely dedicated church leader in Sue Smither, who regularly meets with our Collective Worship Lead, children and other members of staff to plan, reflect upon and develop our worship programme, and to enrich everyone’s experience of faith at Farnworth. She is heavily involved with the daily life of the school and the realisation of our Christian vision.

Sue visits us on a weekly basis to lead acts of worship and also delivers Eucharist to each class across the year. Sue is part of the Ethos Team, supporting children on the Ethos Group to bring our school vision to life. For some aspects of our learning in Religious Education, Sue visits us (sometimes we visit them at church), to support the children in their understanding. Examples of this are doll baptisms, learning about the church building and its symbolism, the wider work of the church and living as a Christian.

We visit our beautiful church several times a year, to gather together and worship as a school family – including parents/guardians and members of the congregation. This is at Harvest, Christmas, Easter and for EYFS welcome services – all led in part by the children of Ethos Group, alongside our church leaders.  We also attend church for ‘Experience Easter’, a lovely intimate and creative way of exploring Easter with our classmates and members of the church, to deepen our understanding and give us the opportunity to ask questions and share and discuss our thoughts and feelings at this important time in the church calendar. At Christmas, the KS2 children lead services in church for their families. Children in upper juniors are offered confirmation lessons which are also led by St Luke’s.

Some of our children and families also attend Messy Church sessions and JAM (Jesus and Me) family worship at St Luke’s. For more information on St Luke’s Church and all it has to offer, please follow the link below:
